Why Your First Session Back After A Break Feels Way Harder Than It Should

You were fit two weeks ago. Now a gentle workout feels like a mountain. Rude.

You took a well-earned break, came back full of good intentions, and got humbled within minutes. Everything felt heavier, harder and more breathless than you remembered. Before you spiral into thinking you've lost everything, take a breath.

Fitness does fade a little when you stop, but not nearly as fast as that brutal first session makes it feel. A lot of what you're experiencing is your body being caught off guard, plus your brain expecting the old, easy version of you.

The reassuring part is how quickly it tends to come back. Bodies that have been fit before often bounce back faster than they built up in the first place, so those early rough sessions are usually short-lived rather than permanent.

So don't judge your whole comeback on day one. Start gentler than your pride wants, let the sharpness return over a few sessions, and resist the urge to punish yourself for taking a break you probably needed.
