The Fridge Myth That's Quietly Ruining Your Bread Every Single Week
Cold does not mean fresh, and here is why.
You bought a lovely loaf, you tucked it in the fridge to keep it fresh, and by day two it was dry, stale and sad. Sound familiar? The fridge is the worst place you can put bread, and most people have no idea.
Cold temperatures speed up something called staling, where the starches in bread recrystallise and firm up. Counterintuitively, the fridge dries your loaf faster than leaving it on the counter would.
The better move is a cool, dark spot in a paper bag or a bread bin. If you cannot finish a loaf in a few days, slice it and freeze it instead. Frozen bread toasts beautifully straight from the freezer.
So pull that loaf out of the cold drawer. Give it room to breathe on the counter, or send it to the freezer for the long haul. Your morning toast will thank you for the rescue.
