The Corner Flag Rule That Even Die-Hard Fans Get Wrong

Can a player move it out of the way to take a corner? The answer surprises almost everyone.

<p>No. The laws are blunt — corner flagposts are mandatory and must not be moved, bent out of the way, or removed, even for a moment. The kicker has to work around it.</p>

<p>Stranger still, the flag can legally shape play. A ball that ricochets off the post and stays on the pitch is live — chaos, but fair chaos.</p>

<p>Some crafty wingers even use the flag as a shield while killing time near the corner late in matches. The most ignored object on the field, secretly a tactical prop.</p>
