Teenagers Spent Their Saturday Cleaning An Old Man's Garden. They Never Expected What He Kept Inside.
They thought it was just yard work. Then he opened the shed door.
A group of teenagers noticed an overgrown garden on their street, waist-high weeds swallowing an old man's front path. Instead of walking past like everyone else, they knocked and offered to clear it for nothing.
It took the whole Saturday. They hauled brambles, mowed, and dug until the path reappeared and the flowerbeds could breathe again. The old man watched from his chair, quietly amazed that anyone had bothered.
To thank them, he creaked open his shed. Inside sat rows of handmade wooden birdhouses he'd built over the years, dozens of them, each one carved and painted with a patience nobody knew he had.
He gave one to every teenager who'd helped. Now those birdhouses hang in gardens all over the neighbourhood, and the teens still drop by on Saturdays, not for the woodwork, but because they've all become friends.
