<p>First, the placement ritual: shooters set the ball on the spot themselves, some adjusting it obsessively. Then the run-up angle — a straight approach hints at power, a wide angle keeps both corners plausible.</p>

<p>Watch the keeper's feet next. They must keep part of one foot on or level with the line at the moment of the kick, so the great ones bounce laterally, trying to bait shooters into changing their mind mid-run.</p>
